Job Description:
Clean Harbors is looking for a full-time Grounds Maintenance
Technician for their facility in Baton Rouge, LA. The Baton Rouge
facility is an approximately 450-acre Baton Rouge facility with
approximately 200 fenced acres that require regular mowing. Other
responsibilities include litter control, herbicide application, and
minor maintenance of fencing and gravel roads. May also assist
other facility personnel with maintenance and sampling of
groundwater recovery system or other responsibilities as required.
Primary work location will be the Baton Rouge facility with
occasional travel to other facilities an average of once or twice
per month.
Responsibilities
- Inspect the property on a frequent basis removing litter and
debris from the grounds and identifying and repairing animal
burrows and similar damage.
- Perform landscape maintenance, such as mowing, edging and weed
control on closed landfill cells, around buildings and
infrastructure, and along fencing and aboveground piping runs.
- Apply herbicide or pesticide solutions to control insects,
fungi, and weeds.
- Operate, inspect, and maintain equipment such as tractors,
zero-turn mowers, UTVs, and powered hand tools (e.g. weed-eater,
chain saw) as needed.
- Inspect and perform minor fence repairs
- Minor maintenance of roads, ditches, and stormwater
infrastructure
- May assist with O&M of groundwater monitoring, landfill
leachate collection, and corrective action systems at the Baton
Rouge Facility
- May assist with the groundwater sampling or site and grounds
maintenance at the closed Crowley and Plaquemine Facilities as
necessary.
- Responsible for the completion of associated paperwork,
including but not limited to daily worksheets, vehicle inspections,
equipment inspections and Health and Safety requirements and
permits.
- Responsible for maintaining storage and equipment parking
areas
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Communicate with coworkers, supervisors, and other
stakeholders.
Qualifications
- OSHA HAZWOPER training
- Knowledge of farm and ranch equipment care, maintenance, and
safety.
- Ability to work with little or no direct supervision and an
aptitude to complete assigned work.
- Familiarity with operating other equipment such as skid-steers,
water trucks, or vacuum trucks is a plus.
- Ability to travel to different locations and work in varying
site conditions.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
Physical Requirements
- This position is physically demanding, and candidates must be
able to navigate varying site conditions where steep slopes and
rugged terrain may be present. Some strenuous manual labor,
including moving pumps and other small equipment is required.
Candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted and may
occasionally be needed to push/pull, lift, or carry up to 100
pounds.
- Requires walking and standing for extended periods of time,
sitting in equipment that may vibrate or jostle, pulling/pushing,
carrying, grasping, reaching, crawling, stooping, crouching, and
balance. Requires speaking, listening, understanding, and writing
English; color determination, depth perception, clarity of vision,
and 20/20 eyesight (corrected or uncorrected).
- Candidate must be able to wear personal protective equipment
(PPE), including a respirator, that may restrict movement when
required. Candidate will maintain a clean and organized work
environment, and a clean personal appearance. Facial hair must
always comply with the company's respiratory protection facial hair
policy.
- Candidate must be physically able to operate hand and power
tools (electric, gas, and pneumatic) of all types with proper
training, PPE, and authorization.
Other Conditions of Employment
- Complete an employment application and satisfy all employment
requirements.
- Pass a comprehensive pre-employment and annual fit for duty
physical, drug screen, and background clearance.
- Adhere to Clean Harbors' policies/procedures and maintain
current OSHA HAZWOPER and other training as appropriate.
- Have and maintain a valid driver's license and driving record
that is satisfactory to Clean Harbors and be approved to operate
light duty vehicles.
- Must always demonstrate a professional standard of conduct.
Clean Harbors' employees are expected to represent the company
during their entire work rotation, on or off our project
sites.
